Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not Bad
This is a fairly good review book to use for studying for med school psych shelf exam.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Best Book for the Psychiatry Clerkship
When starting a rotation, it's always a big question of which book to use whether it be a textbook, or a review title like First Aid or Blueprints. This book is perfect for the clerkship. After reading this book and blueprints psychiatry, I have no reservations in recommending this book. It is very reasonable to get through this book in a few days which leaves you plenty of time to read PreTest or go through this a few more times. It includes details that blueprints misses (however, blueprints ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fabulous
I recently took the psychiatry shelf exam (today, actually) and used this book as my primary study material. What a great resource! The book itself is pretty thin at 150 pages, but it still covered all of the topics I saw on my exam. The pharmacology chapter, in particular, was very helpful for the shelf. Psychiatry can be overwhelming, especially with all of the different lists of DSM IV criteria. This book does an excellent job of organizing the different psychiatric conditions in a way that is easy ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Right on
I used a number of resources for my psychiatry clerkship, but this was certainly the most helpful, both for the clerkship itself and for the exam. It's extremely concise, yet still manages to be far more helpful, illustrative and concrete than the wordier texts. This is the only book I read that gave me a good sense of the differences between various similar-sounding diagnoses. It also contains testable information that I found nowhere else, such as the relative prognoses for the various psychotic disorders. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great book for the shelf
Read this thoroughly and get through it 3 times before the exam, it's great for the shelf. The clinical boxes on the sides are immensely helpful...supplement it with questions (Appleton and Lange's are amazing and do about 100/night the week before the test) and you'll be very prepared for the shelf. The drugs section is a bit weak, so I would suggest using Blueprints for those, but the substance abuse and child psych chapters are golden. Highly recommended! You'll know psych inside and out after getting through ... Read More
