Rating:  - Great for psych rotationI found this book, along with First Aid for psych, a great resource. It provides a great overview over of the DSM-IV topics with good realistic examples. If you don't have a lot of time (like any resident does), using this will help. I also found the handbook of psychiatric drugs (2008 edition) helpful--really good pocket guide, especially for any inpt psych rotation!! Rating: - Another jewel in the seriesYou absolutely cannot fail the shelf exam using this book as your primary text. At times I felt like the same people that are writing shelf questions wrote this book. If you're like me you're bored to tears reading First Aid and Blueprints. This book is different. Buy it, read it a week or two before the shelf, and be pleasantly surprised with your score. The only thing truly missing is coverage of brain imaging and pathological changes with different diseases, a subject my shelf hit with several ...
