![]() Rating: - Good for learning, not for ShelfI agree with one of the other reviewers that this book contained a lot of interesting cases, but it was not particularly helpful for the shelf. I had 3 questions that were straight out of this book, but the vast majority of the questions can't be answered using this as a resource. I had a lot of heme/lab values on my test and 4-5 ethical questions where i felt at least three answers seemed quite reasonable. I don't really know how to study for those- they were situations that I never encountered ... Read More Rating: - good surgery review bookAs a 4th year osteopathic medical student, i used the book to review for the shelf while i did my 4th year surgery rotation in ophthalmology. i don't really enjoy surgery, and i'm planning on doing a family practice residency, and ophthalmology seemed like one of the more useful choices for a surgery clerkship. i used case files because i wanted a relatively inexpensive review book that i would not have to read for more than one hour a day. i really liked the format of this book, because it is ... Rating: - Good, but not up to par with the rest of the series.Though this book remains one of the best surgery shelf prep books out there, it does not include as much of the shelf content as I had hoped. Be sure to supplement with another book as using this as your primary source will leave you scratching your head at many shelf questions. Rating: - ExcellentThis book is the @#@!@$. I rarely write reviews, but after getting my score back I had to write something about this book. At the beginning of the surg rotation, I started to read NMS Sugery. Nothing stuck. Then a friend told me about case files and I took a gamble. I learned and retained more from this book than any other. Also I thought this book represented AT LEAST 70 % of the questions on the shelf. I went through it twice before the exam and supplemented this with NMS Surgery Casebook and scored ...
