Editorial Review: Product Description: Lose the Guilt, Love Your Instincts If the latest “breakthrough” child-development theory, parenting technique, or child-appropriate diet makes you worry or groan (or just want to lie down for a nap), it’s time to make way for Momfidence! Paula Spencer, parenting expert and mother of four, provides refreshing, down-to-earth proof that most of the business of raising confident, healthy children involves nothing more complicated that trusting your instincts, using common sense, and above all, hanging on to your humor. Momfidence! is: •Using “perfect” only to describe such wonders as a ripe peach, a cloudless day at the beach, or a husband who does diapers and dinner. . . It has no application whatsoever in describing motherhood. •Recognizing that there are appropriate times and places for lying, yelling, threatening, bribing, and saying “I told you so” •Sending yourself to time-out—preferably with chocolate and/or your spouse •Being completely amnesiac about the day’s exasperating transgressions when you peek in your children’s bedrooms at night and watch them sleep Based on her popular Woman’s Day and Parenting columns, Momfidence! explains how obsessing less and winging it more can keep you sane—and your kids healthy and happy. It’s a hilarious look at “perfect motherhood” that cuts parents a long-overdue break by reminding us that we’re not the amateurs here—we’re all experts, too. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Take a deep breath, and read it!Let me start by saying...no, I don't think Oreos are healthy. I will likely attempt to feed my child "edamame" when she's old enough. And yes, I think faucet covers are a nice safety precaution. My husband gave me this book while we were expecting our now 11-month-old. I read this book when our daughter was about 2 months old. I was being crushed by the new mommy guilt...Is all my time with her "quality time"? Will that bottle of formula scar her for life? I want some time for myself...am ... Read More Rating: - Really great book!I have several of the books listed above as "Customers who bought this book also bought..." and so far, as I make my way through the stack, I have found Paula's book to be the best. Funny, realistic, with just enough self-deprecating humor to make you really want to be her friend. And I say this because the sad thing is that of all the moms I know, I couldn't recommend this to any of them because no one ever admits to having these feelings of inadequacy. Another more academic but also thoughtful look at ... Read More Rating: - Enjoyable readMomfidence was an enjoyable read if you agree with Paula's child rearing theories -- which I do. But, I can imagine that people who don't agree, like the one's that Paula calls "Mompetition" would find it either offensive or that Paula is just a really slacker mom. I agree with Paula's thoughts that parenting should be fun and we need to just chill out and not be so uptight about things. (If you saw my living room, you would know that I agree with that!) But, at the very beginning of the ... Read More Rating: - Best parenting book I've ever read.I too was one of those first time Mom's that had every book, every magazine and every website bookmarked on how to be the best parent. I counted the books once, 28! I had 28 books on how to be a better Mom. I wish I had found Momfidence a long time ago. In the day and age of information at our finger tips, I do believe too much information can hurt. I wonder how much I missed because I was too wrapped up in what the other Mom's were doing or reading about the next hot parenting tip. ... Read More Rating: - Thanks! I needed that!I had just purchased a slew of parenting books from Amazon but happened to read this one first. At first it seemed that I should have read it last but it gave some great perspective with which to tackle the remaining titles. Cut yourself some slack, don't get caught up and take what works for you and throw the rest out with the trash! And don't forget to ENJOY the journey. In association with Amazon.com | |
