Editorial Review:

Product Description:
The Blue Parakeet is author Scot McKnight’s deeply reasoned, compelling statement of how to read the Bible in a new evangelical generation. In re-examining the Bible, McKnight provides an exciting “Third Way” that appeals to the millions in today’s church who long to be authentic Christians, but don’t consider themselves theologically conservative or liberal.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - very helpful book
i was stoked to get a pre-release copy of scot mcknight's book in the mail, asking me for an endorsement. the publisher was asking for a stupid-quick turnaround (one week!); but that just gave me an excuse to put it on the top of my "to read" pile.

if you've read any of scot's other books, the first 50 pages will feel a bit like a review of the paradigm he uses for his theology and writing (a good review, but a review nonetheless). but then things really start to kick into gear (i'd ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - All Christians should read this thought-provoking book
McKnight, well known blogger and author, challenges readers to think about how they read the Bible in this great little book. The challenge McKnight lays down to readers is to think about what it means to be "biblical" in our thinking, speaking, and acting. Though we may think we mean simply "doing what the Bible says," he shows us that for almost all of us, that is clearly not the case. Through some simple examples he shows that we all pick and choose what we apply and how. The question explored ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Bold Approach
Having "lurked" around the Jesus Creed blog for some time and having read the discussions and comments on this book, I was really looking forward to reading it and I was not disappointed.

The Blue Parakeet is a bold approach to biblical understanding and causes one to think or re-think traditional views on difficult passages (blue parakeet passages). I appreciate Scot McKnight's willingness to confront the issues head on and offer insight on dealing with them.

I especially ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good Book, but Missing Something
The Blue Parakeet is a book about a book, namely the Bible. ScotMcKnight challenges Christians to read the Bible as a story, not as a set of laws or morsels of blessings. McKnight feels that only by reading the Bible as a story can we grasp the truth that God is trying to impart to humanity. McKnight uses the metaphor of a blue parakeet in his backyard to illustrate his point. A blue parakeet once inhabited his backyard, causing the other birds to be at once terrified and curious. He says the Bible does ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Read it through
McKnight's latest book is a needed challenge for all readers of the Bible. Read it through, the first chapters feel like something you've read before but the point (and what we do with the point) is a subtle but greatly needed challenge.

Here's the premise, "Since the evidence reveals that we are all adopters and adapters, we need to admit it and then seek to explain ourselves." It is a very practical look into reading, listening, and discerning a pattern of living for today faithful to the ... Read More
