Editorial Review:

Product Description:

He’s a decorated Gulf War pilot. A fashion plate. A ladies’ man. An independent thinker who speaks his mind and never takes no for an answer. The only thing Americans can expect from Corey Grace is the unexpected...

Love him or hate him, the country can’t wait to see how this charismatic white senator from Ohio—who now has fallen in love with black movie star Lexie Hart—will perform in the most brutal of political contests. Will Grace endure in spite of his controversial lifestyle, and a tragic mistake buried deep in his past? Or will he perish under pressure—from players on both sides of the party line? Nothing and no one in Grace’s life is off-limits once the race begins. Now the only thing this candidate has to lose is…everything.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A WAR HERO RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT FALLS FOR A BLACK MOVIE STAR
In this election year, the story of Corey Grace is eerily familiar--sort of a composite of John McCain with Barack Obama's demeanor. War hero Corey Grace is both haunted and driven by the fact that he let his friend die in the war because he made a foolish decision. No one knows until he falls for Lexie Hart, a beautiful black movie star. The political race for POTUS is a nasty one (oops, does that sound familiar) with lots of mud slinging, and false accusations.

When Corey is about ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fascinating, insightful and ominous insight into the politics of our time
Corey Grace, a war hero and Republican senator, wants to be president. He's not sure if the time is right for someone like him, however: his party has been taken over by Bible-thumpers and the hard right, and he's moderate, an agnostic and 'soft' on gays. Events conspire to make him decide to run, and this book is as much about Grace's fight for the soul of his party as it is about his run for the presidency.

For those who prefer to read about Democrats, be warned: Democrats barely rate ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Spot On!
Spot on book on politics in America. Brilliantly written. The characters literally jump off the page and grab you. It would be great to read a follow up. The Senator and Lexie have quickly become my favorite couple. Thank you Mr. Patterson for showing how as Christians we have prostituted ourselves to the political process and one party..

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Another author bites the dust
With the release of "The Race", Mr. Patterson has joined the ranks of once good/great writers who have decided that communicating their own political opinions and beliefs is more important than crafting an engaging story. After reading 100 pages, I was ready to send this drivel back to the library, but always the optimist, i continued reading, hoping to find at least one or two nuggets buried somewhere amidst the ruins. I came up empty.

If Mr. Patterson wants to embrace "San Francisco" values, ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Timely page turner
This book took me forever to get into, but once I did it was a quick and enjoyable read.

It is in three parts, the first part is a lot of set-up, flashbacks and exposition. The last two-thirds is when the ride starts.

As a main character, Corey Grace is almost freakishly perfect. He's a hero, a decent guy, says what he means and not what he thinks people want to hear. He's a young, handsome white Republican dating a beautiful Oscar winning, young, fabulous Democratic, liberal black ... Read More
