Being on the ice is something Valena has dreamed about since she was a little girl. But when she arrives at McMurdo Station, she soon discovers that her beloved professor and mentor has been shipped out. Arrested. And charged with murder in the first degree. What really happened to the newspaper reporter who dared to contradict Emmett’s research? Most believed that he died from exposure. But the evidence suggests a different story on a very, very cold case. Now Valena must brave the elements and chart a course among local scientists and McMurdo military personnel to clear Emmett’s name. But there are others who will go to terrifying lengths to stand in Valena’s way as she searches for the truth through a harsh and unfamiliar land…before it’s too late. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - Very poor writingThis could have been an interesting, informative book - however I only read about 20 pages and had to stop. The horrid punctuation and overuse of exclamation marks drove me nuts. Rating: - Couldn't finish itI've found the Em Hansen series mildly interesting but couldn't finish In Cold Pursuit. The new heroine's visit to Antarctica is a fitting metaphor for the reader who finds themselves in a vast white space without much going on. Rating: - Great setting, great science, confusing narrativeAndrews shares lots of interesting scientific information about the Antarctic and about the studies being done there. The setting and the science were beautifly described and very informative. Unfortunately, I found the story itself to be rambling and confusing, with many characters introduced but none fleshed out. I got a pretty good feel for the protagonist, but most of the others were hard to tell apart. I had to read it in short segments and found it impossible to remember who was who, as there ... Read More Rating: - Left me a little luke-warmI'm a Sarah Andrews fan by virtue of having a geology degree and an interest in mysteries. "In Cold Pursuit" has fantastic Antarctic imagery and lots of science, maybe too much science, but the mystery is weak. This book just screams, "Let's introduce girls to science!" Not a bad thing, but overkill if you're already a girl/woman who likes science and just wants to read a good mystery. I'm ok with Valena Walker as the heroine, and I like the way Andrews sneaks Em Hansen into the book. ... Read More Rating: - another heroine with everythingThe research and Antartic information is wonderful. And the preachiness (global warming being the theme here) not too bad, quite bearable. But do we really need a new heroine who is intelligent, beautiful, resourceful, and has all kinds of unusual knowledge of unusual subjects, like driving heavy equipment amd lots else?? Give me Em Hansen back (PLEASE!!!), who has only OK looks, is very intelligent, and specializes in various and interesting geological fields, like oil exploration and forensic geology. ...
