The tone is very positive, but it also brings up that making accidents are OK & part of the learning process. The pictures are fun & colorful....they show the whole family getting involved with the potty training process. Most of the illustrations are of boys and I would have preferred some of girls because I bought this for my daughter but it is fine because it is a good way to start the conversation about the difference when she is ready. Loved it's pro-breastfeeding slant. Also really appreciated its talk about diapers as we used cloth and always dropped the poopy in the toilet when they were dirtied. I am not fond of the cartoon illustrations, but they are not terrible (I usually prefer photos instead). My 19 mo. old daughter loves this book.
