The Princeton Review doesn't try to teach students everything there is to know about mathematics and analytic thinking--only the techniques they'll need to score higher on the exam. There's a big difference. In Cracking the GRE, The Princeton Review will teach test takers how to think like the test makers and: • Eliminate answer choices that look right but are planted to fool test takers • Raise scores by mastering the vocabulary words found most often on the GRE • Use Process of Elimination, Ballparking, and Aggressive Guessing to ace the exam • Master even the toughest sections: Analogies, Antonyms, Arguments, Games, and more ** This book gives readers180 practice test questions covering each section of the exam, plus a CD-ROM with 4 full-length simulated GREs and instant score reporting. All of The Princeton Review's practice questions are just like the ones test takers will see on the actual computer-adaptive GRE, and The Princeton Review fully explains every solution. ![]() Rating: - Some merit, but...After having taking the GRE, I can say that though the book does provide some insight into the test which is essential to understanding how the exam is written and how to score well when taking it, what it does not do is provide example questions that approach the difficulty of problems which will be seen on the actual exam. This is particularly evident in the verbal section. The "high frequency words" are a good starting point for vocabulary study, but it is unlikely that many of them will show ... Read More Rating: - Flawed but Invaluable! This was the final study guide of 4 I used to prepare for the gre and found it to be the most helpful. Although the computerized tests are flawed in that they are a few (but critical) minutes "off" from the real gre, the opportunity to practice the test on a computer was invaluable. I believe no matter how hard you study for the gre, you can still be at a great disadvantage if you are not able to accomplish the actual gre with speed & accuracy. Knowing the material is only half of it. You also ... Read More Rating: - Cracking the GRE 2002Not only do you get a great GRE review with CD and sample tests, you get an entire graduate school program, which goes beyond the day of the test. Also, I needed to call Princeton Reveiew for customer service and they were great! Rating: - This book was a great help to me!This book takes you step-by-step through everything. I was doing so poorly in math, and the prep in this book takes you from "This is an ineger" to "Here's a quadratic equation". Lots of help. Lurie (the author) teaches you how to get the right answer. The only bummer is that they needed to include a longer word list along with the "hit parade" list. But that's the ONLY negative thing about this book. Overall, it's great! Informal and even funny -- and a heck of a lot easier to understand than ... Read More Rating: - OK, but software is flawedI have yet to take the GRE, but I just came across a big bug in the software and thought I would share. I just took a timed, practice Analytical section. I ran out of time very, very quickly leaving ten questions unanswered. After checking the accompanying book, I remembered the Analytical section is 60 minutes long. The software only gave me 45 minutes! Don't rely on this book for your only study guide. In association with Amazon.com | |
