James Pease may have been a young man living more than a century ago, but Jim Murphy does a great job of allowing a modern audience to glimpse into life in that tumultuous time through the eyes of one simple young soldier who I consider an endearing literary character.
Pease is no abolitionist, just your average teenager trying to survive the bloodiest conflict in American history, the Civil War.

The reason you should read this book is because it is very interesting to read about what a soilder went through. He was in the beginning saying that "I am not the best speller" and stuff like that. But when you read further it gets more and more interesting and supensful(to me it was). If you are like me and like to read about war stuff. You will really enjoy this book.
