Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist, and London is his stamping ground. It may seem like a good ghostbuster can charge what he likes and enjoy a hell of a lifestyle--but there's a risk: Sooner or later he's going to take on a spirit that's too strong for him. While trying to back out of this ill-conceived career, Castor accepts a seemingly simple ghost-hunting case at a museum in the shadowy heart of London--just to pay the bills, you understand. But what should have been a perfectly straightforward exorcism is rapidly turning into the Who Can Kill Castor First Show, with demons and ghosts all keen to claim the big prize. That's OK: Castor knows how to deal with the dead. It's the living who piss him off...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Urban Horror. We have a winner!
I don't expect much from the urban horror genre (or supernatural thriller genre, or whatever you'd like to label it) because I have been burned plenty of times in the past by weakly written stories. So, it was with mounting pleasure that I turned the pages of this smashing debut by Mike Carey. It has everything you'd expect from an urban horror tale--only with better writing, a wry sense of humor and a grittiness and weight that I don't find often in fantasy novels. I found it a perfect balance of ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Urban Fantasy-- PI/Exorcist, Fun Novel and Well Narrated -Audio Book Review
I picked this book up because it was 1) an intriguing sounding Urban Fantasy and 2) read by Michael Kramer who I had just enjoyed reading Emma Bull's Territory. The English accents don't sound quite right but I enjoyed the book so much that I wasn't particularly bothered. I would suggest that any person who is more knowledgeable about English accents should listen to a sample on Audible before committing. I know how I can feel when someone gets an accent I know well wrong-- anywhere from amused ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Memorable First Novel
I enjoyed this book a good bit. I liked the main character and felt he was well developed. The story flowed well and the action was great. The surprises were good.

Worth reading.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good Stuff
I generally dislike graphic novels, so was not at all sure that I would enjoy this book, since the author had only written graphic novels previously. I'm glad I took a chance on it; it's entertaining, original and very well written indeed. I was delighted by the wry humor; I am not a person who often laughs out loud, but several times, this book surprised me sufficiently to trigger a guffaw (a dainty one, of course, but still a guffaw). The characters and world are original, likeable, AND believable, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Inventive & captivating!
Took me a while to pick this one up & I'm glad I did! The characters and relationships are fleshed out well as is the interesting setting. Felix's world is modern Britain, with the twist that an inexplicable shift has occurred around the millennium and ghosts and the risen dead linger on, commonly appearing to the living, generally in the vicinity of the site of their deaths or burial ground. Other forms of supernatural beings make an appearance in the world as well. Felix is an exorcist; a nonreligious ... Read More
