![]() Rating: - A quirky and entertaining mysteryNora Blackbird was living the good life among the posh blue bloods of Philadelphia's Main Line. How to Murder a Millionaire cover True, she and her two sisters were widows, likely as a result of the Blackbird curse, but time heals all wounds-even the unexpected ones. Unfortunately, as any good reader will know, the sins of the parents are always visited upon the children. In How to Murder a Millionaire, Nancy Martin's first Blackbird Sisters mystery, those sins come in the ... Read More Rating: - Cozy murder on Philly's Main LineI thoroughly enjoyed this first book of the series! Nora is an appealing character, and her oddball relatives and neighbors struck me as on-target sketches of old-money families dealing (or not dealing) with today's financial realities. The quirky characters reminded me of Charlotte MacLeod's terrific Sarah Kelling and Max Bittersohn series. I'm definitely going to be collecting the rest of this series. Rating: - quick and fun little readSometimes you just want a fun little read and not War and Peace. When you come home from work and need to unwind without having to invest too much into enjoying yourself this is the book for you. The mystery is just interesting enough to keep it moving, there is a hint of romance and the read goes quickly so you don't get bogged down night after night sludging through it. Not on par with the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich or The Alpine series by Mary Danheim, but it is definitely a fun read. Rating: - What funI thought this book was excellent. It was a fun read. If I want to read Janet Evanovich, I will buy Janet Evanovich. However, after reading the ARC for Fearless Fourteen, I'll pass on Evanovich and go with Martin. The plot is original and the characters entertaining. I laughed out loud. I can't wait to see where we go next. Rating: - It helped with the laundry...Here's the thing. I love the Stephanie Plum series and like all fellow Plummers on the planet I long for more comic mystery novels with a hint of romance, especially of the quality of the first four Evanovich Plum series. This book isn't in the same league. I found the relationship between the sisters unamusing and annoying, the "wacky" characters weirdly cardboard and unimaginatively drawn. You can almost imagine the author brainstorming. "I know lets make him strange and rich! He dresses like a Civil ... Read More In association with Amazon.com | |
