Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Develop your own counseling style using Corey's bestselling THEORY AND PRACTICE OF COUNSELING AND PSYCHOTHERAPY. You will see the major theories of counseling (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist and, and postmodern approaches) as they are used in practice through a case study focused on one client, "Stan." The case of "Stan" appears in each chapter so you can see how the theory presented in that chapter informs therapeutic decision-making. The new "Theory in Practice: The Case of Stan" DVD is an extension of the text. "At a Glance" charts pinpoint the major differences between theories in areas such as multicultural focus, basic philosophies, and limitations.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Theories and Counseling Practice
Interesting book. Nice to know what the pscyhiatrists are doing and how they come to their conclusions.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Corey's Theory & Practice of Counseling & Psychotherapy
This is an excellent book, and probably the best of its kind. It guides you through the various approaches to psychotherapy, giving you all the details necessary for you to comprehend each method fully as well as to compare the methods with one another. The comparison becomes even easier as Corey presents the case of "Stan" at the end of each chapter and demonstrates how each approach would deal with his dilemma. I think this book is interesting for anyone who likes psychology and psychotherapy, ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Theory and practice of counseling and psychotherapy
This is a great book, I did not receive the DVD with the product and Amazon was very helpful in over nighting me a replacement to have it for class on time. The book is interesting and one I will not return at the end of the semester!

Thank you Amazon

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Helpful but lengthy and dry
This book has so much great information but it is presented in such a way that it can be difficult to get into. The chapters could be much more concise. Also, as an art therapy student I would appreciate a picture or a graph or any kind of visual to go along with what I am reading...but there are none! The author writes well but the overall read and content of the book is dry.
