After reading about 50% of the reviews here, I think a lot of people are missing the point of this book. It isn't to lose weight. It's not a diet plan, fad or otherwise, and if you come to it with the sole intention of losing weight you may be disappointed. UltraMetabolism takes a wholistic view of, and provides a prescription for, a lifestyle that will lead to metabolic health. I bought this book because I was eating natural foods, watching the calories and fat, and exercising and losing maybe one pound every three weeks. I went on the 3-week 'detox' diet and missed out on social occassions to follow my strict no-dariy, no-wheat, no-sugar, no-alcohol, no-red meat, no-caffeine (and I loved my morning tea) diet. This is an excellent dietary plan for those wanting to lose weight and move to a healthy eating style. Although not easy to do, this book gives you a very common sense plan to move to a new view of food and how nutrition plays in your life. Along the way you lose weight too!!!

This book provides a lot more details on the actual steps to take that Dr. Hyman discusses in the Ultraprevention. There are some great recipes. I found this book to be extremely helpful in adopting many of Dr. Hyman's recommendations.
