Product Description:
This New Edition delivers, in a straightforward manner, all of the information readers need to understand and interpret electrodiagnostic studies. It emphasizes clinical/neurophysiological correlations and uses a practical, hands-on, interactive approach throughout. With new chapters on electrical safety and the use of EMG in the ICU-and the inclusion of two bonus CDs with over 75 EMG waveforms-this resource continues to be the single source to consult for guidance on the clinical and electrophysiological evaluation of disorders of the peripheral nervous system.

  • Features case studies at the end of each chapter.
  • Provides a wealth of tables that summarize guidelines for the evaluation of most neuromuscular disorders as well as tables that highlight the results of nerve conduction studies and the electromyography for that particular patient.
  • Provides clear, original photographs that emphasize correct needle placement.

  • Delivers new chapters on electrical safety (including absolute and relative contraindications for EMG and NCS), the use of EMGs in the ICU, and basic statistics for electrodiagnostic studies
  • Includes new bonus CDs with over 70 waveforms, enabling readers to see and hear all of the waveforms discussed in the text.
  • Provides new discussions of pediatric EMG.
  • Discusses new disorders such as paralytic poliomyelitis caused by West Nile virus.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Must have textbook for neurology residents/fellows
If you are looking for a solid book to begin learning about EMG/NCS, this is an excellent choice. The text is clear and concise, reflecting the exceptional instructional abilities of Drs. Preston and Shapiro. The text is very "readable" and
organized in a logical fashion with helpful illustrations alongside. A bonus of this book is the CD, which is very user friendly and allows one to establish visual recognition of basic concepts in the needle study such as spontaneous and voluntary activities. ... Read More
