Author Pat Ivey uses her extensive first hand experiences and an unflinching eye for drama and detail to bring us the unheard tales of heroism and courage of the EMT units. She takes us into a hidden world of children in need, women seeking shelter from the storm of abuse and the realities of industrial accidents. A simple car crash turns into a Herculean effort, an epic struggle against the clock and against the odds. Tragic misfortunes that usually occur silently in everyday America and the men and women that try to heal these heart-pounding predicaments are put reverently on front stage in this truly heroic, honest and compassionate compilation of true action adventurers. ![]() Rating: - Great readA great book full of heart and soul, definatley recommend it to anyone interested in the EMS field. There are moments when I thought that it was losing the thread and then you realize it is all part of the same big picture. I have just lent it to my mother so that she can understand a bit better what it is I do (I am also a volunteer EMT) Rating: - All rightThis book was "edge of your seat exciting" at some points. However other sections were a struggle to continue through. I would read anyways for it is very thought provoking and really makes you appreciate your volunteer workers. Also, having just lost a best friend who was a sr by drunk driving, it helps encourage u to make the right decisions and such. Rating: - This book makes us look bad.I'm an EMT in one of the top rated systems in the world. This book, is not the best I've read. Although Pat and Ed are outstanding EMT's, they make the job sound like you just drive there, get on-scene and be a cowboy. I disagree with the reputation they give all public safety personnel. Rating: - great follow upThis book describes EMTs to a tee. We never know when we're going to be home, we sometimes don't get to spend a lot of time with our family, and our life is filled with adrenaline, loss, and victories. What more could you ask for in a good book? Rating: - written by an excellent EMTAlot of good stories involving EMT's in this one. Ivey tells of her experiences in a touching way. How her work affected not only her, but, her friends and family. Alot of good stuff. My hats off to all volunteer EMTs of the world. I'm also going to look for her 1st, EMT.
