Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Updated to reflect the current SAT format and questions found on its most recent exams, this workbook concentrates on the SAT Critical Reading section with an extensive series of exercises. They reflect that section's two question types: sentence completion and reading comprehension. The exercises for both question types are divided into three levels of increasing difficulty, labeled from A to C, with all questions answered and explained. Students who master level C of both sections will be prepared to excel on the actual exam. The author also presents test-taking tips and an extensive vocabulary review.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Sentence completion is OK, but reading is absolutely disastrous
Like every other high school student, Barron's is a challenging yet incredibly accurate and helpful for me. So it was only natural for me to buy this book for the SAT. This book divided sentence completion and reading comprehension into various groups for its difficulty. I found that the sentence completion questions are decent (not perfect, for no prep book can be exactly like the actual test). It was rather disappointing to see some questions were vague. For instance, it tested idioms which is ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent resource
I bought this for my kids but browsing through it, I learned a LOT too! It's an excellent resource for SAT takers.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A Great Workbook for Highly Motivated Students
Pros: Hundreds of practice questions; Multiple ability levels; Answer key with explanations; Great vocabulary words
Cons: Brief descriptions of problem-solving strategies; C level questions more challenging than official SAT questions; Flashcards for vocabulary; Short answer explanations

I recommended using The Barron's Critical Reading Workbook for the SAT with other SAT prep materials. The workbook as a stand alone critical reading SAT prep is not enough for the majority of ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Workbook, USE FOR SCORE INCREASE
So, a friend of mine recommended this workbook to me. He said that it helped him increase by 70 pts from a 670 to a 740. I bought it, did most of the sentence completions, studied the vocab., and did the passages. I went from a 670 on the critical reading (March sat 09') to a 750! (Dec sat 09'). I have to say that I am thoroughly impresseed with this book. It arranges the sentence completions in three sets according to difficulty and the passage based reading questions are harder than the real sat ... Read More

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Very Disapointing
I used Baron's for the SAT Math Subject Test and it was great. However, for the reading Baron's was terrible. My main issue with this book is that the questions in the practice tests ARE NOT similar to the questions you will actually see on the test. Most books especially Collegeboard's have acurate questions. However, this book had styles of reading comprehension questions that I had not seen in a dozen practice tests. Baron's had a lot of "pretty general" questions that would ask about details ... Read More
