Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Written by Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine faculty and surgical residents at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, this comprehensive manual covers all aspects of the ABSITE. This innovative text is broken up into two sections. The first section features a full-length practice test based on actual key words from recent ABSITE exams, along with perforated answer sheets to simulate the real exam. The second section reviews all practice test questions and answers, providing rationales behind surgical decision-making, in sections divided per the ABSITE score report. This text is not only helpful in preparation for the ABSITE, but also for senior residents studying for the general surgery qualifying exam, and for all surgical residents seeking to review key topics while on specific surgical rotations. A companion Website will offer an online test bank.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - absite preparation
Found the topics and explanations very apt for ABSITE study. A useful tool for your preparation.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Goes over topics from previous ABSITE exams
Many of the topics I missed from previous exams were covered in this book with an explanation. I don't think all the explanations were necessarily the final word. This book should probably be used as a supplement to another study guide b/c it is not very comprehensive. Seems to be worth the price, but I can't say for sure as I don't have my score report back yet.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - index is wrong
I like the question format in this book as it is very similar in style to the actual ABSITE. One thing that I have noticed is when I look up a topic in the index, the pages it lists are wrong. For example, idiopathic thrombocytic purpura is referenced to page 243-244, which is actually the first page of the index.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - 215 question ABSITE test but not all answers are correct
The question book is very well put together, however the answers to about a fifth of the questions are obviously wrong. For example they state the standard treatment of a pregnant patient with C. Diff is Flagyl, but for the last four years on every ABSITE I have ever taken the answer is Vanco. This is the easiest question on the ABSITE every year and this book gets it wrong. Another question that is wrong deals with ABIs and rest pain. Their answer states that rest pain begins when ABIs are less ... Read More
