"Excellent chapters on geology, vegetation, and wildlife."-Backpacker

"A friendly guide to one of the most spectacular places on Earth."-Outdoor Photographer

The ecosystems within Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state are diverse- from subalpine meadow to old-growth forest-and support a variety of birds, reptiles, amphibians, fishes, mammals, and plants. Mount Rainier describes and illustrates in full color each of these plant and animal species and explores the park's geological history, land use issues, native people, and past explorers-at once a traveler's guide, field guide, and natural history of one of America's most popular and extraordinary national parks.

George Wuerthner has written more than 20 books including Grand Canyon: A Visitor's Companion and Olympic: A Visitor's Companion (see below). He lives in Eugene, Oregon. Natural science illustrator Douglas W. Moore lives in Tucson, Arizona.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great coverage of the park
This book has a great breadth of coverage on all things Mt. Rainier. We purchased one for each our 3 cabins at Mt. Rainier. Our guests enjoy flipping through it on their visits to the park.
