I bought this book on my first year of residency, not really knowing what it was. I found out that in order to digest the contents of this book you need some 'minimal' experience in Internal Medicine. Unfortunately in my first year this book was better than me. It did not include extensive paragraphs on pathogenesis and mechanisms of disease, because it is only a review, and it is supposed to give you the facts in brief. I've read a previous edition in the past and it is an excellent text. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that there is a new edition and bought this one instead of the 8th edition.

I bought this book to prepare for my boards, thinking based on the current 5 star recommendation and a colleague of mine advice that it is an excellent book
I am very disappointed, as the book is full of unorganized information, characterized by flight of ideas, and frequently omission of important points.
basically in all my in service exams, I got in the low 90 percentile, therefore, I believe I should not face much trouble in the boards, howevwer, I dont think that this book is in any ... Read More

It is impossible not to pass the American Board (re)certification exam in internal medicine if you read (and digest) this concise book. Provided you have had a good 3-year training in a decent accredited internal medicine program. I would also recommend adding to this book a thorough review of the questions and answers from MKSAP (Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program)from the American College of Physicians.
