The inflammation usually occurs in the rectum and lower part of the colon, but it may affect the entire colon. The inflammation makes the colon empty frequently, causing diarrhea. When I got my diagnosis through, I thought my problems were treatable. It wasn't until after my second visit to my consultant that I realised I was suffering from a long term condition. Until I read this book, I had not idea how long-term that was!

This book explains an unpredictable, complicated disease in really plain, practical language, even the very scientific parts. The section on probiotics is very enlightening and helpful - makes a lot of sense.
