Editorial Review:

Product Description:
This version of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, Eleventh Edition (print only), has a laminated hardcover. For this new edition, America’s largest staff of lexicographers made more than 100,000 changes and added more than 10,000 new words and senses, such as 'convergence', 'Frankenfood', 'phat', 'psyops', and 'vermiculture'. The Eleventh Edition also features over 40,000 usage examples — more than ever before — which clarify confused or disputed terms. Additionally, thousands of phrases and idioms help distinguish vocabulary for language learners. Special sections include A Handbook of Style, An Essay on the English Language, and Signs and Symbols. Over 55 million copies of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary have been sold, spanning a time period of over 100 years.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary
Delivery was excellent and on time. Only problem I have is that days after I purchased this 11th Edition, the 12th Editon comes out. Still a great book and worth the price.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Indexing
The dictionary is a good one as usual. The index tabs are not exactly where they should be. Maybe they can not fix it because of limited space. Maybe Amazon can ask them.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Dictionary
We needed this for our 7th grader's reading class. It had to be this name brand and we decided to use the online option to buy it since it is cheaper than the stores were in our area.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best on the Market
Nobody puts out a better dictionary than Merriam-Webster. The Collegiate is my pick because one of my hobbies is the Over-50 Spelling Bee, and this dictionary is the reference source for that competition. The Elementary edition is what I use in my classroom. The Unabridged is what I subscribe to on the Web. I wouldn't buy any other company's dictionary because this book and its publisher can trace their roots back to the original Noah Webster who first recognized the uniqueness of American English.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great for students
This a great resource for students( or anyone else, but students will get the most out of it). My mom had the 8th version or so in about 1995. The CD is great to quickly look up words and you can incorporate it into word processing programs like microsoft word.
