Editorial Review:

Product Description:

How can you give your children the tools they need to teach themselves? Long ago students were first taught how to learn. Today, students are taught an encyclopedia of subjects trivia but they are not taught the basic skills of learning: to discover, to reason, and to apply. They are not taught the trivium.

Can you homeschool in a classical style without compromising your Christian principles? Classical Education must be sifted through the critical screen of the Scriptures to be transformed into a Biblical model.

Can you homeschool in a classical style without buckling under the burden? There is only so much time in the day. For every subject, and for every age, we have a workable plan which leaves you free to breathe. You can continue to use other approaches to homeschooling within the framework of classical education.

Is homeschooling about renewing family vision? The family is at the heart of God s plan for restoring Christian culture. Homeschooling is not alternative education. Homeschooling was here first. We want to restore Biblical order to education.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tried and true
I had heard of this book and finally bought it about 3 years ago. When I read it I was teaching my oldest daughter Kindergarten. Reading this book was like meeting a long lost friend. It just all made sense. My favorite part is the chapter called "Ten Things to Do with Your Child Before Age Ten" Wonderful for this mother, former public school teacher who just couldn't wait to teach. The book reinforces other research that I have read that early education should follow a natural path and not ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - One year applying Teaching The Trivium ( Review English/Spanish)
I have more than one year applying the practical ideas and following the guidelines proposed by Teaching The Trivium, and now I feel it is a good time to write my review.

The book discovers the analogy between the Classical Liberal Arts of Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric with the Biblical qualities of Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom. This makes it a book in classical homeschooling in the more pure sense of the word. It is a book about classical education. It follows the Trivium, and is ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Perfect Example of Self-Righteousness
The author spends a good part of the book blasting the public schools and private ( including Christian ) schools. He also says that children should not have independent relationships outside of the family. He also demeans the importance of Sunday School. I do believe that parents are responsible for ensuring their child's education and spiritual growth. But to go so far as to say that a person is out of God's will if they don't homeschool is extreme legalism. He twists the context of the majority ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fascincating vision for a Christ-centered education
I have been homeschooling in the classical method for 3 years now, but this book makes it so clear just what is the "classical" method and how can it be of use to Christians.

I have been challenged to become seeped in a God-centered approach to educating my children and to not simply replicate a godless school structure with a few Bible verses thrown in here and there. This challenge is not only laid out very carefully and thoughtfully by the Bluedorns, but they give scripture repeatedly throughout ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Resource!
As a former Valedictorian with a relatively positive public school experience people are often surprised to learn of my choice to homeschool, especially since my faith was not a factor when I made that decision. My reasons hinged on the fact that, though I got excellent grades, I knew and understood very little that I could apply practically. I was skilled at memorization and test-taking, making me a "success". Harvey & Laurie Bluedorn's Teaching the Trivium focuses on this very concern.

"How can you ... Read More
