Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Kaplan’s Step 3 book, with vibrant full-color medical illustrations, will be the first book that covers the content of the exam in a logical and methodical fashion, emphasizing the following for several categories of residency:

  • A logical step-by-step approach to management
  • An assessment of severity, prognosis, and next course of action for specific conditions
  • How to prioritize while managing, especially in emergency or acute cases
  • An outline of signs/symptoms and diagnostic or lab tests that signify the need for change in management approaches
  • An outlined follow-up schedule and necessary monitoring approach for specific patient circumstances

This book will also review how to approach Clinical Case Scenarios, which make up 20% of a students' final score.

The USMLE Step 3 exam evaluates a resident's ability to practice unsupervised medicine. It is a 2 day exam. Day 1 features 336 multiple-choice questions; day 2 features 144 multiple-choice questions and 9 Clinical Case Scenarios.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good, But Use Alongside UW / UpToDate / CMDT
Dr. Fischer, of Kaplan fame, and his co-author have done a pretty good job in combining all that you need to know about Step 3, in the space of 524 pages.

However, be aware that this guide is not a complete guide, nor is it meant to be. Get more information about a topic from either USMLEWORLD, UpToDate, CMDT, or even Washington Manual, and write it on the good amount of margins that the authors have provided throughout the book. They also do a relatively good job in giving tips on ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Master the Boards
Great review for step 3!!!!Helps a lot organizing the way to approach diseases, and management

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Extremely high-yield and excellent value
I am a pathology resident and as such did not get any clinical experience during my first year of residency. The residents in my program have compiled a large library of Step 3 review books, flash cards, question books, etc. This book by far was the best for me. It contains very high yield material which is presented in a format which was easiest for me to follow. I just recieved my Step 3 score today and scored 20 points higher than I did on Step 2 CK, and that's without having done any direct patient ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Best of the 3 Gold Standard Reviews
As much as I hate Kaplan (the McDonald's of exams and USMLE with no hesitation to milk profit from poor students), this book is probably the best of the 3 books, which are:

1- This one
2- Crush by Brochert
3- First Aid

I personally like this the best and is the most complete and exam-oriented book. Heavy emphasis is placed throughout on what to do in the CCS scenarios and are, in my opinion, even better than the stand-alone section in FA, which is fairly worthless apart ... Read More
