Editorial Review:

Product Description:
While anger can serve vital functions to protect and defend the integrity of the self, it is too frequently an instrument that destroys and abuses. Hostile reactions often lead to guilt, regret, and alienation; uncontrolled anger exacts a heavy price from the mind and body. Research suggests that individuals who are quick to anger are vastly more likely to die early in life than those whose reactions to stress are more pacific and controlled. This book is a complete, step-by-step guide to changing habitual anger-generating thoughts while developing healthier, more effective ways of meeting your needs. It is ideal for therapists who work with families or teach anger control and helpful for health professionals who treat the effects of Type-A personality. This book guides you through the process of creating your own personal intervention strategy for controlling angry impulses. Learn about the "two-stage" model of anger production. Find out how to recognize pre-existing stress-producing conditions that often lead to angry moments without directly causing them. When you work through the exercises and lessons in this book, you will immediately see positive change in every aspect of your life.

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Decent anger book with helpful suggestions
While I wouldn't call this the "best" anger book that I've read, it did have some great suggestions. This book doesn't get your attention and make you WANT to change your anger problem the way that another one I read did, but it does offer a lot more individual suggestions for dealing with specific problems/sources of your anger. Definitely worth reading if you have issues with anger that you want to work on.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Immediately helped my anger problem!
This book has totally changed me and I HIGHLY recommend it over any other anger book out there. There are SO many books on anger, but this is the ONLY one you'll need.

What got me in the direction of this book is that I was having a (violent) anger problem that ended in me hitting my boyfriend. (Yes, I am a woman, and I have had a physical anger problem.) So I have been in some serious emotional turmoil. He could have called the police - but he didn't. That's when I realized I could ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Useful insights
Neither counseling nor anger management classes were as instantly effective as this book. The authors present tools for understanding anger and gaining control over it that can be immediately put to use. I finally have a handle on my temper through the insights and exercises offered here. I feel more peaceful than I have in years and my family notices that I can now handle stress without getting mad.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - how to helpunderstand anger
my son was sent this book and said it was the best he had read. he said he goes back and reviews every few days. He said it really helps you understand anger and how go cure it

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Many good aspect, some shortcomings
This book takes a cognitive-behavioral approach to anger management. It is fairly dense material, well-written and offers many valuable insights. Some of this material can be found in other books, but it is well-researched and you will definitely benefit by reading it.

What I didn't like about this book is that it is based on some unexamined or at least unexplained assumptions that the average person with a problem with anger might not understand. I also found the almost exclusive ... Read More
