The Demon Deacons were picked to finish last in their division. Bad luck came early. Their starting quarterback broke his arm in the first game. His substitute was Riley Skinner, a redshirt freshman who had never taken a college snap. Yet they won that one, and the next and the next. Until they were 5-0. Just Wake Forest football. It wasn?t over, however the rookie quarterback and his team would win five of their next six, and find themselves in the ACC Championship game against Georgia Tech. There, they relied on tough defense and three field goals to become the first North Carolina school to win an ACC championship football game.
