Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great insider tips
The color photos are inviting and the listing of resources impressive.

With a Table of Contents and Index to work with there is no difficulty in finding parasailing, snorkeling, diving, swimming, hiking, kayaking, farmers markets, restaurants, shopping, waterfalls, surfing groms, yoga, beer and tons of other listings. I was surprised to find snowboarding and a rare blonde blue-eyed zebra named Zoe in the book.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - A visitor's guide to the big island of Hawaii
This is a useful book to have if you want to visit the state or explore the possibility of living there. In the age of internet, lot of information may be obtained from the state of Hawaii (government web sources), AAA and many other sources on the web, but this book is good for a quick reference.

The introductory chapter, "Outdoor activities and adventures" describe a variety of activities you could experience and enjoy at the nine geographical locations in the big island of Hawaii. ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - I wish I could go!
I can't review this product on accuracy, but I can say that the pictures are beautiful, the information relevant and the layout attractive with many charts and maps. I especially liked the cultural and historical elements of the guidebook. This is not just for the "surfer dudes" who go to Hawaii but also for those who prefer a more "authentic" taste of the island. The authors of this guidebook aren't afraid to say "This place is too touristy", which I appreciate.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A must for your next trip the big island
Lonley Planet has a knack for giving you a quick overview of a city and the clues to developing your itinerary. It's true that they lack the long, thorough reviews that you find in some guidebooks, but I prefer the brevity of Lonely Planet's approach. They include lots of current information and a mercifully brief overview of the history & culture of the subject locale. Their books are well illustrated and logically laid out. They're also pretty durable, which can be handy on a trip.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Your best friend for planning a trip to Hawaii
No more excuses, I am going to take the family to Hawaii. This guide is terrific. We are looking to do a "ecotourist" type of trip, with snorkeling, surfing, and visiting the Volcano. It provides me the information I need for vital planning. The guide is organized simply to find the essential data on what, where, how, $$$ and is filled with well written reviews and interviews of locals. I feel very comfortable planning my trip with this guide. Recommended.
