From the supplier: The Cash for Clunkers program aims to reduce the myriad environmental problems through government purchase of old, polluting automobiles. While it may be a logical plan to protect the environment and promises to bring economic benefits, the program may also be anti-poor. Increased demand for old cars may increase, thereby driving up their price and decreasing the supply of reasonably-priced automobiles for the poor. Moreover, taxability of financial assistance becomes possible and food stamps may be reduced. The poor may also exceed their auto asset limit and total asset limits.
