From the supplier: A survey was conducted on the environmental scanning practices of less-than-truckload (LTL) general freight carriers and the relationship of these practices with firm size and profitability. Results revealed that of those surveyed, 74.4% perform environmental scanning. A comparison between scanning and non-scanning firms showed that the former viewed the regulatory sector as a major hindrance to their operational efficiency. In addition, scanning firms were found to be significantly larger in size and were more profitable.
