Books for Prep

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Alright except for eggregious typos in formulas
Explanations tend to be good. Easy to follow order and lessons. But beware - has several major typos on formulas in instructional sections.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent book! Recommended.
I really like the author's style of presenting mathematical material - it is clear and lucid, devoid of unnecessary mathematical obfuscation. The book gives you a clear picture of the topics that are asked in the GRE test, as well the depth of preparation you want in each topic. You probably want to use this book as "study guide" - to figure out what to study and how much, and to get you started on the topics; and refer to "standard" mathematical textbooks to get some more practice and indepth explanations.

Overall, I have no real complaints - the book is very good. If you're preparing for the GRE Math subject test, I highly recommend that you buy it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very good for GRE Math preparation but not perfect.
Right now this book is the only serious help one can get before she/he goes to take the GRE Math test. If anyone has any other suggestion please let me know (seriously). It has unusually many typos (specially in the beginning chapters) and for this reason, at certain points, it may confuse a math novice. What really bothered me during the first reading was that I've spent a lot of time to check the correctness of formulas and theory presented within. Second and third readings were incomparably faster. Fortunately, the errors are not as many as many readers in this list assert. It could have been a perfect book for GRE Math with the following additions: 1)Better typo/error screening, 2)Addition of exercises section for Chapter 7 named "Additional Topics", 3) Addition of a couple more full GRE Math tests and 4)More analytic treatment and more exercises for abstract algebra, number theory and topology (anyway, the rest of the material is more or less much more widely taught and understood).

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - not enough
I would say this is a much more accurate prep for the GRE math subject test than some others I've seen. The review sections are concise and effective. The review problems are fairly well done and reiterate the important material from each section. My major complaints are that the "additional topics" section doesn't have a review problems component and there are not enough practice tests. This practice test seems to be a pretty good copy of the one I saw on the ETS website. My advice is to do the review in this book, including the test, then do the ETS practice test if you are worried about your score.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book, buy it!
This book is great for reviewing all the Math you learned in college. However, I don't think the review material in the book is enough to TEACH you stuff you don't know.

From web reviews it appears this book is much better than the REA book. I think you should buy this book first - to see if you can handle the material, and then buy the REA book for more practice problems.

Good luck!
