Books for Prep

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - This is a wonderful book!!!!
I was diagnosed as a child with ADD. At the time, I did not really understand the disorder, and refused to admit that it was a logical diagnosis. As many of what I would consider "first-generation child ADDers" believed, I was just thrown into the pile so the doctor could get paid and not have to deal with me. I finally just stopped taking my medicine and went on with my life.
As an adult, I befriended another ADDer who thought that I should go for testing again, as new medicines were out that are more helpful than Ritalin. I found this book at used bookstore, looking for another one, but it has completely changed my view!!!! Being written by people who suffer from it as well, really helps to know that I'm not alone.
I have found myself completely relating to the characteristics described. I would recommend this book for anybody who has or knows anybody with ADD.
I also feel that it should be a must for any teacher (especially in the elementary level) to read so that they can better understand and help their students with this disorder to better succeed. If I had had the understanding that I have now of ADD, I would have done much better in school and my social skills.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great book
This book is great to provide to ADHD clients. It is written for the non-professional and is easy to understand.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Life-Changing Book For Me
I had always known I was different. Creative, Impulsive, "Marching to the beat of my own drummer" as my teachers used to say. It wasn't until I was in my 30's that my constantly racing thoughts, inability to finish projects, constant need for stimulation (in work), sleep problems and other signs forced me to talk to my Dr. Turns out, she felt I had ADD. I (like most people) always picture the hyper little boy who's aggressive and can't do his school work when I hear that word. Being a woman (not not physically hyper at all. In fact, not even close)I never considered that I could have ADD.

I went home, did some research and purchased this book. The stories of the various types of ADD and ADHD shocked me. Some of the women used for examples could have been word-for-word written about me. I was stunned. Always a day-dreamer. Gazing out the window in class. Dropped out of college. Brilliant and creative, problem sovler...

This book was amazing to me. With the help of the proper medication, self-acceptance, and treating my "short-comings" as what they are... symptoms that I need to work around, I am now happier than I've ever been. I can stay awake all day, finish projects, am back in school, more organized, can multi-task. My family is amazed at the difference.

If you even remotely suspect you, or someone you love has ADD or ADHD, this book is a must have!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy?!: The Classic Self-Help Book for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder
This is a must-have for people with ADHD or those who interact with an ADHD individual. I have gotten to understand myself better from reading this book, and I feel a sense of relief now that I know I am not "Lazy, Stupid or Crazy!" I actually had a hard time putting this book down, it was easy to read after a long day at work - I was surprised to find it so humorous and entertaining - something that I haven't found too often in a book of this sort. It is by far the best book on ADHD that I have read; I highly recommend it.
