Books for Prep

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - An absolute necessity
This REVIEW text is one volume that absolutely every medical student (and pre-med student) should own. You can use the text as your primary textbook in an introductory course to biochemistry as an undergraduate then keep it for use as the textbook in your biochemistry class in medical school. As a review for the USMLE, this book is key. One of the greatest features of this book are the illustrations. There are many and ALL are worth their weight in gold. Concentrating on the illustrations of the metabolic pathways (in which enzymes and problematic pathways are illuminated with reference to a particular disease) is a quick and concise way to review for the USMLE Step 1.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very helpful book even if you studied biochemistry years ago
It seemed to me that the book was too detaled sometimes, but it gave very good understanding of methabolism and major pathways. Correponding chapter of Biochemistry from USMLE Step1 is extremely helpful to keep your knowledge organized. I would definitely recommend this book.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect!
You know, most review books are too concise. They simply list the points (next to bullets) and expect you to know and understand them. Some of the facts they LIST are not entirely accurate, some are trivial, some important facts are left out completely. Then give you a bunch of MCQs and feel they've done their job.

Not the case with this book. Although it's called all review, it's perhaps comprehensive enough to promote to an introductory (I stress this book is not for Biochemistry majors; it is perhaps most suited for Medical students - ie. those who don't need very detailed biochemistry knowledge) biochemistry text. Most medical (and other non-biochemistry majors) students will find this more than adequate for their courses. It contains more relevant facts than the Board Review Series by Dawn Marks (which I found insufficient for my course). The feature that sets it apart from the competition is that it EXPLAINS the facts. Sure, it doesn't have as much detailed explaination as Lehninger, Voet or Stryer, but it is certainly enough.

If you're not a Biochemistry major, this is a must get for your biochemistry course.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Best Review in Biochemsitry I've Ever Seen
As I wrote in the title, it is a review ! So, Do not expect from it to give u detailed information about the subject (especially if your field of speciality is biochemistry). However, despite of being review, it has got all the core information and the details that needed to be known by the student. It is true that there are some topics which are not covered thoroughly such as plasma proteins, minerals metabolism in the book but the missed is not so much compared to what it has. I really strongly recommend for you, students (particularly medical students). Being simple, concise and perfectly illustrated with figures, it will save your time and effort and will give u the core info that you need to get A or (even + ) in the exam.It is a Must-book for you med-Student.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent use of diagrams and figures
This book is a must have, especially if you are a visual learner. This book has some really nice diagrams that make biochem easier to learn, and also as a good review when you study for the COMLEX /USMLE. If you are about to start your biochem course, buy it then instead of buying it only for the boards.
