Books for Prep

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Must for Med Students
I bought Lippincott's Illustrated Biochem Review, 3rd. edition (along with Harper's Illust. Biochem, 26th ed.), and used it throughout my first year med school biochem course. The text throughout Lippincott is clear, concise, and consistent [as opposed to Harper's, which is somewhat inconsistent in explaining the material, depending on which author or authors (out of a pool of several), is responsible for which topic or chapter]. Topics in each chapter in Lippincott are broken down in easy to digest sub-topics; important concepts stand out and crucial information is readily identifiable. In addition, Lippincott has wonderfully full-coloured illustrations that are professionally drawn, easy to understand, get to the point, and are visually interesting. My instructor recommends Harper's for his course because he says that it is more detailed than Lippincott, but almost everything that he covers in class is contained in Lippincott (except for a few minor details - no single book is going to contain everything, anyways)! Even though Lippincott is classified as a review, I highly recommend it as your primary source for your 1st year medical biochem course. I really can't say enough good things about this book - it's simply one of the best review books I have ever read (I suggest buying a used copy of Harper's, but for reference only).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - incredible
My experience with this book is much different from the rest of the reviews. I am a practicing Chiropractor. I had no boards to take. I deal with nutrition and supplementation in my practice, and I wanted to review biochemistry to have a stronger foundation. This book became much more to me than that. This book has been a religous experience. When I took Biochemistry in school I had a hundred other differnt things going on including studying for boards. While I found it interesting, it was a job. The subject of biochemsitry is to me now, a meditation on the mind of GOD. This book unravels the mystery of life. The pictures and the flow chart reviews at the end of the chapters now allow me to OWN concepts, instead of memorize them. I congratulate the authors on a fine book, and thank them from the bottom of my heart.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good book----not the greatest
This book is a good BASIC review or an introductory book for first time biochem students, high school students or someone preparing for a nursing or medical board exam. This book is NOT geared toward any other science majors. I purchased this book based on reviewers that recommended it for researchers. If you aspire to a Masters or PhD program this book is not for you....it is too basic. The book was easy to follow and did have good diagrams. A very basic, entry level biochem review.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GREATBOOK
Is excellent and explains everything concisely and with good diagrams.
I recomended for research students

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Must have for biochemistry
This book was excellent for my biochemistry class and for board studying. I used it mainly as a reference during my board studying. It has great diagrams and references to biochemical diseases.
