Books for Prep

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very good concise resource
Crush step 3 is a great concise resource given the time crunch that many of us are in during the intern year. I like the layout moreso than that of the First Aid books. First aid presents an outline format that gets choppy, i.e. makes you try to memorize lists for every topic. Crush flows better containing written synopses about each topic.

I agree with other reviews claiming that this resource offers limited review in pediatric and Ob/Gyn. Being a pediatrics intern, I was prepared for the pediatrics section of the exam based on my experience as a resident. However, the pediatrics section is definitely watered down too much to use Crush as a sole resource. The OB/Gyn was certainly not enough. Having not thought about many of the gynecologic topics since medical school, I would've been in trouble at exam time had I not completed many Ob/Gyn samply items in a question book (Kaplan Q book for Step 3).

Again, good concise resource, but lacking with respect to pdediatrics and Ob/Gyn.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - good material but not enough
with such great reviews i was so happy to have found this book but once i opened it... it was all down ill after that. i think if ur really freash with step 2 then its a useful book. but i was a 3rd year resident when i decided to take it and i needed far more indeth recall and studying for step 3. even failed step 3. so finally took kaplan live lectures. brilliant. after 10 days i was ready to take the exam. fastest prep of all time are the kaplan live lecture ones.. but my case was different.. just get over ur step3 real quick. as fast as u can. for the early birds im sure this is a great book. for me way too superficial.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Preparation for Step 3
I am finishing my preparation for Step 3. It's September. The application process started already. I am doing a rotation in Mount Sinai Hospital Miami in Critical Care and at the same time I am studing for my Step 3, which I must take before January to have chance of H Visa. I have done Qbank with USMLE World and Kaplan, I have read First Aid and I bought Crush Step 3 as one the the last points before getting ready to take the exam. Pleasantly, I found this book very helpful. I really recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - concise, quick, sufficient
crush is a well-written, succinct, adequate step 3 review source. i used it along with some online questions, and after having taken the exam, feel that it prepared me well.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good, but overrated.
This book has been the "gold standard" for USMLE step 3 for a long time, mainly due to its size. It is a good book and contains a lot of information in a small volume, but it is NOT enough. The pediatrics and OB&GYN parts are very incomplete, and unless you are a resident in those specialties, you will have problems. The pictures are not enough. In my opinion, Kaplan Notes are better. If you have time, it is better to read Peds and OB&GYN from Step 2 Kaplan notes, and then review Step 3 Kaplan notes. At the end, use this book for rapid review. It would be nice if this book had a CCS section like "First Aid to USMLE Step 3"First Aid for the USMLE Step 3 (First Aid). Bottomline: Don't rely on it as the only source for preparation.
