- After Weight Loss Surgery CookbookThis is a wonderful cookbook for people who have had weight loss surgery. It is hard to know what to eat, how much to eat, and to come up with appetizing dishes that are perfect for those of us who have had WLS. The receipes in this cookbook are wonderful - and not just for the WLS eaters, but for the whole family. Those are the kind of dishes that we all need. Also, many good ideas for those of us who go to family dinners, pot lucks, etc. No one would ever know that these dishes came from a WLS cookbook. I'm glad I have this book and know that it will be used a lot in the futture. Rating: - Perfect cookbook for weight-loss surgery patientsI was a little skeptical at first when I ordered it, but I became quickly happy as I initially browsed this book. This cookbook, with numerous delicious recipes, addresses several concerns amongst weight-loss patients, whether you have a lap-band, gastric bypass. or BPD-DS: 1. It informs each type of patient how they should ingest the food depending how long it has been since their surgery. For example, if you're recovering from lap band surgery and it's been more than a week, it will inform you that you should puree your food. Beyond that, it will let you know what you should do incrementally. AS WITH ANYTHING, CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR ANYWAY - my doctor agreed with most of its recommendations, but you should always be knowledgable about the medical field's recent findings. 2. Nutritional data - calories, protein, fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol, fiber and sodium. These are all hot topics with weight-loss surgery patients and each recipe gives you a breakdown of each, per serving, to a ludicrous 2-decimal accuracy. This is helpful for ALL of us. Contrary to another review that I read on this product that initially gave me pause, the ingredients are not too "exotic." I've been cooking out of the Joy of Cooking book for years and nothing within THIS book surprised me in the slightest. If you're used to Stouffers and Hungry Man dinners, you might be a little baffled by the ingredient list; however, casual cooks will recognize most if not all of the ingredients. I was able to find ALL the ingredients at a local Fry's grocery store and Costco as needed. My absolute favorites in this book are the "asian turkey-filled cabbage dumplings" and the "un-pasta lasagna with tomato sauce" (which uses zuchinni strips instead of noodles). Both recipes make me feel like I'm cheating, but I'm not!!!! Rating: - I'm not a gourmet cook!I found the recipes to be difficult and the ingredients hard to find. Also, the authors recommendations for when to advance from liquids to mush, to soft, etc did not follow my surgeons. One has to keep in mind her recommendations are more guidelines and you should always follow your doctor's. I did like that fact that she has had surgery and could relate to some of the difficulties. Rating: - The best! This is the best cookbook out there for post bariatric patients. There are wonderful recipes that are easy to prepare and you are given exactly how much protein you will be getting with each meal - which is more important than anything. I love the fact that it was put together by someone who has had the surgery and that she couldn't find a cookbook out there for herself. Face it there isn't much out there for us. This is a great example of a well put together cookbook. Rating: - best WLS cookbook out on the market!First off I want to say that anyone could make these recipes! There are some reviews on here about how most people wouldn't have these ingredients in their cupboard, the only way that would be true is if you are a backwoods hick who only uses Mrs. Dash!! This cook book is full of common healthy ingredients! It is wonderful! It has a nice gourmet twist to it, but like I said is not to difficult! I really like how it breaks down all the options for the different WLS. The writer of the book had Lap-Band done herself. I totally recommend this book! Although if you are used to having fried fish sticks as seafood, you might not have an open enough mind. Although there are American adapted dishes such as pot roast and beef stroganoff, most of these recipes are somewhat exotic or European. All very good, A++ review, everyone who has had WLS should get this book, even if your just over weight and are on a high protein diet, this is a wonderful cookbook! In association with Amazon.com | |
