- A eye opener and must read for any ADD or "disorganized" womanAny excellent book that will help you discover the full extent, things you may not have realized, that can also be attributed to your ADD. It was an eye opener for me. Rating: - Very informative--but don't read it when you're depressed! It's well-written and this is a subject that deserves attention, since the stereotype of ADD/ADHD is still that of a young, hyperactive boy acting out in the classroom. There's lots of good information in here, targeted mainly towards wives and mothers (I'm neither). There are lots of examples that mention housework, cooking, scheduling, money management, etc. It describes both women with AD/HD and also women with ADD who are quieter, easily distracted, and prone to daydreams (this type usually gets short shrift). If you have depressive tendencies you may want to skip it, check out a library coopy--or read it in very quick bursts. The cumulative effect it had on me was feeling hopeless and trapped, like many of the women in the book. I eventually gave my copy away, despite the plethora of "Aha!" moments. Caution: I'd read it BEFORE giving it to a partner or just copy selective passages; beware of overwhelming him or her with the negative aspects of women and AD/HD. Rating: - Women with Attention Deficit DisorderI am 42 years old and was just diagnosed with ADD. After starting medication I was able to read - something I hadn't done in years. I voarciously poured through books on ADD. As a woman with ADD Sari Solden's book was by far the best. Every page gave me an opportunity to see myself in a different light - making it possible to reframe my guilt and shame... I had always believed myself to be different - now I know I am and can nuture the strengths of my differences and accomodate my challenges. Thank you Sari - your book reminds me that my challenges will not disappear upon diagnosis or treatment - but that I need not allow them to define me. Rating: - Very HelpfulThe author explains the disorder clearly and completely, providing very practical advice on how to deal with it. Rating: - Every woman should read itI had no idea that girls and women with ADD were so different from boys and men. Very eye opening. It answered a lot of questions in my life...and in my child's life. In association with Amazon.com | |
