Editorial Review:

Product Description:
In April 2003 Patt Levine underwent "Lap-Band" gastric surgery, one of the primary bariatric surgeries being widely practiced today. As a lifelong foodie, she was expecting the worst when her surgeon's nutritionist handed her dietary guidelines to follow post-surgery, and she was right. With her decades of cooking skills, she immediately set out to devise low-fat dishes that would be just as delicious pureed and chopped as they would be served whole. As an added problem, she wanted to cook for her husband at the same time. This first-ever cookbook for the hundreds of thousands who are lining up for bariatric bypass surgery is proof that it can be done. With collaborator Michele Bontempo-Saray, the author has created 125 recipes that contain no added sugar, are very low in fat, and get their carbohydrates almost exclusively from fruits and vegetables. Each recipe includes specific guidelines for preparation of the dish for every stage of the eating programs for Lap-Band, gastric bypass, and Biliopancreatric Diversion Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS) patients, as well as suggestions for sharing meals with those who have not gone through gastric surgery. Creative recipes cover every meal and food—breakfast and brunch, soups, vegetables, main courses, and sweet indulgences.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best!
This is the best cookbook out there for post bariatric patients. There are wonderful recipes that are easy to prepare and you are given exactly how much protein you will be getting with each meal - which is more important than anything. I love the fact that it was put together by someone who has had the surgery and that she couldn't find a cookbook out there for herself. Face it there isn't much out there for us. This is a great example of a well put together cookbook.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - best WLS cookbook out on the market!
First off I want to say that anyone could make these recipes! There are some reviews on here about how most people wouldn't have these ingredients in their cupboard, the only way that would be true is if you are a backwoods hick who only uses Mrs. Dash!! This cook book is full of common healthy ingredients! It is wonderful! It has a nice gourmet twist to it, but like I said is not to difficult! I really like how it breaks down all the options for the different WLS. The writer of the book had ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Great Resource
I'm a lap-band patient and a picky eater, two things which are not necessarily the best combination. I picked this book up a week after surgery, when I was desperate to at least read about food that wasn't protein shakes or Jell-O. It was much to my surprise that I found an easy dozen recipes on the first pass that sounded as though I'd enjoy them.

Only a dozen? Well, yes. When I say 'picky eater', I mean 'picky eater'; it's not a slight on the book. Entire swathes of it I ignored, ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - I know how to make an omelet
I was hoping for a cookbook with basic, down-to-earth recipes on how to adapt everyday dishes for the post-surgical patient. This wasn't it. The recipes are either very rudimentary (I know how to make an omelet) or party-like dishes. Very disappointing.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery
This book is a good resource for those who have time and money to fix more 'fancy' meals after surgery. I found only a few recipes that I would use.
